Let There Be Light!
Discoveries are made every day and have been since the dawn of time. New discoveries lead to an ever growing body of knowledge making the scientific arena a hot bed of learning and exploration. History is filled with men and women who discovered things about our natural world that have made life as we know it much easier, more convenient, and pretty comfortable for the most part. Occasionally such hot topics will become the latest headlines and we gaze and watch in awe as scientists reveal to us ideas that blow our imagination.
Space has always been one of those things that intrigued me. I could sit out and look at the night sky for hours. The beauty and awe it invokes is just breathtaking. If you take any time out to truly study how big and vast our universe is, you would probably be speechless. Stars thousands of times the size of our sun, galaxies moving with space, the enormity and immensity of the power contained in our universe speaks for something - how did something so big, so powerful come to be? And it is questions like these that science avails itself to find answers to so that you and I aren't left in the dark in our questions about the world around us.
Science is the search for knowledge, true knowledge. By definition, for something to be considered scientific, it has to meet certain parameters: is the idea testable, is it predictable, can it be falsified? The list goes on. There are litmus tests for what passes as true science and what does not. Now you throw something like the Bible into that mix and you've entered the arena of faith or what some might call pseudoscience, yet, the Bible says that God, the self-proclaimed Creator of it all, is said to have not left Himself without witness. He Himself left behind truths that would help to build that faith in Him, declaring as He says in the book of Isaiah "the end from the beginning." So does this mean that He left some "evidence" behind to declare that He was and is telling the truth?
Yes He did. The creation clearly speaks about His invisible attributes (Romans 1:20) and not only that He literally spoke about what He did. He revealed "scientific" truths millenia before they would ever be discovered by some of the greatest scientists of our time. "Let there be light" He declared in the beginning. Well, what was that light? The very words He chose for light in Genesis 1:3 and 1:16 mean two different things. Let a physicist define light and you'll find that light consists of more than what the visible eye can see. It's much more than that. It's energy, heat, radiation that can exist in the form of waves or photons (tiny energetic particles of light). That illumination is often confined into a luminary body as evidenced by a star or a light bulb and so we now have light generating objects. But guess what? God describes Himself as light. He dwells in an unapproachable light, and He also cloaks Himself in darkness. What was God talking about here? Was He contradicting Himself?
I'd love to answer these questions and indeed I do answer them in chapter three of my book, so you'll have to stay tuned to find out. In the meantime, I want you to think about and realize that the truth is not so hard to find, that the designer of a thing will always know more about his designs than the ones making use of it. Where there are questions, the Bible has provided answers. Hidden in history they are, but not if your eyes are opened and you're open and willing to accept the truth.
